Our Principal's Message

Greetings to you all!

I feel honoured and privileged to be a part of Government Arts and Science College at Thennangur where every stakeholder is a learner and everyday is an opportunity to learn and discover. We strive towards academic excellence by fostering a positive learning environment for all our students.Initially, our college was started as a constituent college of Thiruvalluvar University, in the temple town of Thennangur to make higher learning accessible to the rural and economically downtrodden sections of the society. Higher education is a gateway not only to knowledge but also to progress and success in life. Our college imparts value-based education and sustains a conducive environment to learn cultural and moral values. We maintain a learning atmosphere that encourages students to set higher goals and be successful in all spheres of life. In the academic year 2010-11, when the college was started, the strength was 243 (with 121 boys and 122 girls), and the courses offered were BA English, BCom, BSc Computer Science, BSc Mathematics and BSc Physics. Now the student strength is 1500 and we have added two more UG courses, that is, BSc Biochemistry and BSc Zoology, and two PG Courses – MCom and MSc Mathematics. From employing just 8 faculty, we have grown up to boast of 60 teaching and non-teaching faculty. Though started initially in a temporary building with hardly enough classrooms to run the five courses in a general shift, our college now can boast of spacious and ventilated rooms, a well-stocked library, well-furnished computer and physics labs, and intranet and internet facilities. We have completed only 13 years, but, I am proud to say, we have created a name for ourselves.  Education is not complete with theoretical or classroom learning alone. The tough and competent world requires students to be holistic, possessing leadership qualities and effective communication skills, and be responsible and respectable citizens dedicated to work and contribute to make this world a better place to live in. As a young college, many a challenge awaits us before we emerge triumphant in the years to come. With the dedication of our faculty members and support from the non-teaching staff and parents, our institution is sure to shine as a model institution and fulfil the purpose for which it was established. We look forward to the support of all stakeholders to help us provide holistic education and achieve the pinnacles of success.
